BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has three teams bound for the 2023 Frozen Four, hosted by Minnesota Duluth at AMSOIL Arena on March 17 and 19.
With their success in NCAA regionals, Ohio State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin advance to the NCAA Semifinals with a shot at Sunday, March 19’s national championship.
It marks just the third time in league history that the WCHA has had three teams advance to the Frozen Four, following 2009 and 2021. The trio look to claim the WCHA’s 20th national championship title in league history.
Minnesota will face Wisconsin on Friday, March 17 in the national semifinal, while Hockey East’s champion Northeastern awaits defending national champion Ohio State in the other semifinal.
In the regular season, Wisconsin went 2-0-2 against Minnesota, with each program earning a shootout win, although the Gophers most recently defeated the Badgers 4-2 in the 2023 Kwik Trip WCHA Final Faceoff semifinals. All-time, Ohio State has gone 7-3-2 against Northeastern, with the last meeting dating back to the 2006-07 season.
Ohio State is the reigning national champion, after winning its first title last season by knocking off league foe Minnesota Duluth 3-2 in State College, Pa.
