SCSU's Sanni Ahola named December's HCA Goaltender of the Month

St. Cloud State University senior Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland) has been selected as the co-HCA National Goaltender of the Month for her play during in December 2023.  Ahola shares the monthly national honor with Penn State's Josie Bothun.

This marks the second time this season that Ahola has earned HCA National Goaltender of the Month status as she also recevied this elite recognition in October 2023.



The WCHA Goaltender of the Month in December, Ahola posted impressive numbers during the final month of 2023 with a 2-0-1 record that included a 2-1 victory with 46 saves against #1 ranked Ohio State on Dec. 1.  She also made 27 saves in a 1-1 tie against #2 ranked Minnesota on Dec. 5 and finished the month with a 5-1 win over #6 Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 9.

She finished the month with 108 saves and just three goals allowed in 185:00 minutes played.  Her save percentage in December was .973 and her goals against average was 0.97.  

Ahola currently leads the nation with five shutouts this season and a .967 save percentage and is second in the country with a 0.80 goals against average.

University of Minnesota redshirt junior forward Abbey Murphy was selected as a runner-up for the December HCA National Player of the Month.  Princeton's Sarah Fillier was named the HCA Player of the Month.  Murphy posted six goals, four assists and 10 points during the month and was recently selected as the WCHA's Forward of the Month for the second consecutive month in December.
