Minnesota Tops Boston University 5-2 to Complete First Home Series

MINNEAPOLIS (gophersports.com) - The No. 2 ranked Golden Gopher women's hockey team completed their home-opening sweep against the Boston University Terriers after a 5-2 victory on Sunday. Minnesota moves to 4-0 on the season.

Senior forward Peyton Hemp opened up scoring on the day, tallying her first goal of the season with 6:05 left in the first period, assisted by Ava Lindsay and Natalie Mlynkova. The Gophers led 1-0 at the first intermission.

The second period saw BU tie the game with a Lilli Welcke goal 13:05 in. Minnesota bounced right back one minute later on a penalty shot, retaking the lead when redshirt senior forward Abbey Murphy flipped the puck over the glove of the Terrier goaltender Mari Pietersen and into the back of the net. With less than three minutes left before second intermission, senior Ella Huber added to the Gopher lead as she scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Murphy.

The Minnesota offensive attack did not waver in the third period, as junior defender and Colgate transfer Sydney Morrow tallied her first goal in Maroon and Gold only 27 seconds into the period, assisted by freshman defender Gracie Graham and Mlynkova. The Terriers would add their second goal of the game almost two minutes later. The scoring would close with 16:44 left in the third period with junior defender Nelli Laitinen's first goal of the season. Natalie Mlynkova would tally her third assist of the game on Laitinen's score.

Freshman goaltender Hannah Clark made her first collegiate start, finishing with 12 saves in Sunday's game.
