All-WCHA Teams Announced for 2024-25

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association is proud to announce its 2024-25 All-WCHA and All-Rookie Teams presented by Sterling Trophy. 

Of note, the 2024-25 WCHA Player, Forward, Defender, Goaltender, Rookie, Outstanding Student-Athlete and Coach of the Year will be announced prior to the 2024-25 WCHA Kwik Trip Final Faceoff held from March 7-8 and hosted by the University of Minnesota, Duluth. 

All-WCHA First Team

This year's All-WCHA First Team selections include the current top three point leaders in the NCAA with Wisconsin's Casey O'Brien, Laila Edwards, and Kirsten Simms. O'Brien and Simms are making their second straight appearance on the All-WCHA First team after earning the honors last season. The 2024-25 WCHA scoring leader, O'Brien, recorded 52 points in 28 league games this season, off of 17 goals and 35 assists. O'Brien currently leads the NCAA with her 2.19 points per game. Edwards ranked second in the WCHA with 48 points (23g, 25a) in league play, while teammate Simms was third with 45 points (12g, 33a). Simms, who was last year's WCHA Player and Forward of the Year, is currently tied for second in the NCAA with teammate Edwards in points per game at 1.78

On defense, Wisconsin’s Caroline Harvey was named to the First Team for her second straight season after leading all WCHA defenders with 36 points (10g, 26a) in 28 WCHA contests. Harvey ranks third in the NCAA with assists per game at 1.11. The junior defender was named the WCHA Defender of the Week on six occasions throughout the season. Ohio State's Emma Peschel recorded 22 points (4g, 18a) in WCHA play to earn her first-ever spot on the All-WCHA First Team. Peschel was named the WCHA Defender of the Week once during the season. 

In goal, Minnesota Duluth's Ève Gascon earned her first-ever All-WCHA First Team nod. Gascon recorded a 1.90 goals against average and earned three shutouts against league opponents. The sophomore netminder collected 666 saves in her 21 league games played. Gascon's overall save percentage of .943 ranks sixth among all goalies in the NCAA.

Abbey Murphy tallied the second-highest amount of goals in league play of any WCHA skater with 19 and earned All-WCHA Second Team honors for the second-consecutive season. Wisconsin's Lacey Eden, who was also an All-WCHA Second Team selection last season, recorded 39 points (17g, 22a) in conference play, marking the fifth most of any skater. Ohio State's Joy Dunne was sixth in the WCHA for points earned in league play with 37 (15g, 22a). 

On the blue line, a trio of defenders were named to the All-WCHA Second Team in Minnesota's Sydney Morrow and Minnesota Duluth's duo of Tova Henderson and Nina Jobst-Smith. Minnesota's Morrow was second among all WCHA defenders in league play with 23 points (6g, 17a). Minnesota Duluth's Henderson was sixth among defenders in the WCHA with 17 points (4g, 13a) in league play, while teammate Nina Jobst-Smith recorded 12 points off of three goals and nine assists in 26 league games. 

Wisconsin's Ava McNaughton rounded out the second team in goal as she posted a league and nation best 1.18 goals against average through 32 games played. McNaughton was this season's WCHA Goaltending Champion with her 1.28 goals against average in 27 league games. The sophomore netminder earned four WCHA Goaltender of the Week honors and three WCHA Goaltender of the Month honors this season. 


All-WCHA Third Team

Minnesota Duluth's Olivia Mobley and Clara Van Wieren along with Ohio State's Jocelyn Amos, received All-WCHA Third Team recognition as forwards. Mobley totaled 21 points (15g, 6a) in conference play, while teammate Van Wieren earned 25 points (9g, 16a) for the Bulldogs. Van Wieren was named the WCHA Forward of the Week once during the season and recorded one hat trick. Amos earned 33 points (18g, 15a) in league games and ranked eighth among all WCHA skaters. Amos earned one WCHA weekly honor this season and recorded a hat trick on two different occasions. 

Chloe Primerano was the only rookie named to any of the ALL-WCHA teams as she recorded 18 points (3g, 15a) in league-play for Minnesota. Primerano earned one WCHA Defender of the Week honor during the season. Wisconsin's Laney Potter recorded 19 points (3g, 16a) in conference play, ranking fourth among all WCHA defenders. 

Between the pipes, St. Cloud State's Sanni Ahola earned a 2.58 goals against average during league play and recorded one shutout as she was named to the All-WCHA Third Team. Ahola was an All-WCHA First Team selection last season and the 2023-24 WCHA Goaltender of the Year.

The WCHA All-Rookie team includes forwards Caitlin Kraemer from Minnesota Duluth, Ohio State's Jordyn Petrie, and Wisconsin's Maggie Scannell. Kraemer was tied for the fourth-highest point total for the Bulldogs in league play with 17 (11g, 6a), while she earned four WCHA Rookie of the Week honors throughout the season. In her first season with the Buckeyes, Petrie recorded 16 points (10g, 6a) in conference games and earned the WCHA Rookie of the Week honor once. Scannell helped the Badgers to claim their 10th regular season title while earning 14 points (10g, 4a) in conference play. Scannell claimed the WCHA Rookie of the Week honor on three occasions. 

On the defense, Minnesota's duo of Primerano and Gracie Graham earned All-Rookie team honors. Primerano was named the WCHA Defender of the Week and WCHA Rookie of the Week once during the season and was also named the WCHA Defender of the Month in December. Teammate Graham recorded 12 points in league action off of six goals and six assists. 

St. Cloud State's Emilia Kyrkkö is the All-Rookie goaltender. The rookie netminder posted a 2.10 goals against average through 16 conference games, which ranked third among all WCHA goaltenders. Kyrkkö was named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week twice this season while being tabbed the WCHA Rookie of the Week once.
