WCHA players gain AHCA Krampade All-America Scholar awards

The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) recently recognized NCAA ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom during the 2023-24 season with the announcement of the eighth annual Krampade All-American Scholar awards.

151To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for each semester, and had to appear in 40% of the team’s games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goaltenders. Schools also were required to be members of the AHCA.  A total of 292 NCAA Division I women hockey players earned All-America Scholar status during the recent 2023-24 season.

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association was well represented on the list of award recipients with 69 student-athletes from the league being selected for All-America Scholar honors.

Ohio State was tied for first in the nation with 14 All-America Scholar award winners this season along with Sacred Heart and Merrimack.  Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth both ranked second in the WCHA with 11 All-America Scholars each, while Minnesota State had 10 honorees followed by Wisconsin (7), Minnesota (7), St. Thomas (6) and St. Cloud State (4).

WCHA student-athletes who were named both to the AHCA All-America team and the AHCA Krampade All-America Scholar Team this season included Wisconsin's Caroline Harvery and Ohio State's Cayla Barnes.

The WCHA will begin its 26th season of women's hockey competition in 2024-25.  The league has established itself as the nation's top NCAA Division I women's ice hockey conference as WCHA teams have won 21 national championships since 2000 - including Ohio State winning the NCAA Division I title in 2024 with a 1-0 victory over league rival Wisconsin in the Frozen Four championship game in March 2024.

In 2024-25, WCHA fans will once again be able to watch all home league games by subscribing to the B1G Plus streaming service.  For more information, please visit bigtenplus.com
