No. 11 St. Cloud State Blanks Lindenwood in Season Opener

Ahola ties Chobak for career shutouts record, 10 Huskies tally a point in 4-0 win on the road to start the new season

SCSU went 3-for-5 on the powerplay and a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill and outshot the Lions 41-18. Ten Huskies recorded a point with two multi-point performers – fifth year forward Brieja Parent (Forest Lake, Minn.) and senior defender Ella Anick (Hermantown, Minn.). Parent scored a powerplay goal and posted one assist – logging her third career multi-point game and first as a Husky – while Anick recorded two assists for her eighth career multi-point game and fifth as a Husky.

Fifth year goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland) earned the win and her ninth career shutout after saving all 18 shots she faced. Her nine career shutouts tie fifth year goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) for the most in program history.

Parent opened the scoring on the power play with just over five minutes left in the first period, with Anick and fifth year forward Ally Qualley (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) providing assists. Sophomore forward Greta Henderson (Regina, Saskatchewan) added a second power play goal, the fifth of her career, with 18 seconds left in the first period to double the Huskies lead with assists from sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvia, Finland) and redshirt sophomore forward Laura Zimmerman(Ringgenberg, Switzerland).

Fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) tallied her first goal of the season halfway through the second period. Senior defender Dayle Ross (Spirit River, Alberta) and fifth year forward Abby Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) each recorded assists on Gentry’s even strength goal. Senior defender Taylor Larson (Nisswa, Minn.) scored the fourth and final Huskies goal, a powerplay goal with 1.1 seconds remaining in the second period. Her goal was assisted by Anick and Parent.

Ahola posted a perfect 1.000 save percentage after stopping all 18 shots she saw to earn her first win/shutout of the season. It was her ninth career shutout which tied the program’s record.
Gentry led the game with nine shots on goal and 12 faceoff wins. She scored the only even strength goal of the game.
Henderson scored the fifth goal of her career.
Larson tallied the 10^th point of her career with her buzzer beating goal in the second period.
Qualley posted the 20^th assist of her career in her 100^th career game.
Sundelin, Zimmerman, Ross and Promersberger each recorded their first assist of the season.
Senior defender Grace Wolfe (Owantonna, Minn.) led the game with three blocks.
