WCHA Recap - Oct. 4

Saturday's action in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) was highlighted by all five teams in action recording series sweeps over their respective opponents.

No. 1 Wisconsin 5, Maine 0 - BOX SCORE -  Wisconsin Recap 
- After a 5-0 shutout over Maine at home, No. 1 Wisconsin recorded its second-straight series sweep as the Badgers now have a 24-game win streak at LaBahn, dating back to Feb. 24, 2024.
- Laney Potter had two goals to lead the Badgers' offense, recording her first and second goals of the season; teammates Caroline Harvey, Kelly Gorbatenko, and Kirsten Simms recorded one each.
- The shutout marked the third-straight shutout for the Badgers as Ava McNaughton collected 13 saves and Rhyah Stewart had 3. 

No. 3 Minnesota 5, No. 13 Boston University 2 - BOX SCOREMinnesota Recap
- The third-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers improved to 4-0-0 on the season after completing the series sweep on the road over No. 13 Boston University. 
- Abbey Murphy recorded her second hat trick of the season in the win; Murphy now has 112 career goals as she moved to third all-time in Minnesota program history. 
- Rookie netminder Layla Hemp collected 25 saves and picked up her second win of the season in the net for Minnesota.

Minnesota State 3, Lindenwood 2 - BOX SCORE - Minnesota State Recap 
- The Mavericks improved to 4-0-0 on the season after a 3-2 victory over Lindenwood, marking the first time since the 2009-10 season that Minnesota State has opened with a 4-game win streak. 
- After a back-and-forth battle, Minnesota State's Makayla Moran netted the game-winning goal at the 9:24 mark of the third period to lead the Mavericks to victory. 
-  Eight different players registered a point in the win as Mercury Bischoff, Lauren Goldsworthy, and Moran each tallied a goal. 

Bemidji State State 4, Robert Morris 1 - BOX SCORE
- Hailey Armstrong led Bemidji State to its first series sweep of the season as Armstrong recorded all four goals in the 4-1 win. 
- Armstrong's four goals in the game tied a Bemidji State program record, as this marked the first four-goal performance of the junior forward's career. 
- After a shutout performance in game one of the series, sophomore goaltender Kaitlin Groess allowed just one goal in the win and collected 27 saves for the Beavers. 

No. 2 Ohio State 9, No. 7 Colgate 4  - BOX SCOREOhio State Recap 
- A six-goal second period propelled No. 2 Ohio State to a 9-4 win over No. 7 Colgate as the Buckeyes recorded a sweep in their first series of the season. 
- Rookie forward Hilda Svensson led the Ohio State offense with two goals while eight other Buckeyes scored a goal in the 9-4 win. 
- Ohio State's six goals scored in the second period of the game were the second-most goals scored in a period in program history.
