WCHA Recap - Oct. 31

The final day of action in October was highlighted by six Western Collegiate Hockey Association teams earning points in the WCHA standings.

No. 3 Minnesota 5, No. 1 Wisconsin 1 | BOX SCORE | Minnesota Recap | Wisconsin Recap
- Four third-period goals propelled No. 3 Minnesota to a victory over No. 1 Wisconsin in the first border battle matchup of the season; the Gophers' win broke a Wisconsin 37-game unbeaten streak going back to November of 2024.
- Cassie Hall netted her 50th career goal for Wisconsin at the 6:42 mark of the first period before Minnesota's Josefin Bouveng tied the game less than two minutes to go in the second; the Gophers then scored four unanswered in the final frame from Sienna D'Alessandro, Sydney Morrow, Bouveng, and Abbey Murphy. 
- Murphy tallied her 100th career assist in the victory while teammate D'Alessandro netted the first goal of her Gopher career.
- Gopher netminder Hannah Clark tallied 40 saves and recorded her eighth win of the season.  

No. 2 Ohio State 3, No. 13 St. Thomas 2 OT | BOX SCORE | Ohio State Recap | St. Thomas Recap 

- The second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes picked up their seventh WCHA win of the season, coming back and defeating No. 13 St. Thomas 3-2 in overtime.
- The Tommies opened up the scoring 43 seconds in from a goal by Whitney Horton, but the Buckeyes answered back towards the end of the period with a goal from Hilda Svensson; after a scoreless second period, Chloe Boreen put the Tommies back on top before Svensson scored a power-play goal to send it to overtime where Ohio State's Sanni Vanhanen scored the game-winning goal. 
- Taylor Kressin picked up her second win of the season, stopping 13 shots for the Buckeyes, while teammate Svensson led the way with two goals, marking her second multi-goal game of the season and fifth multi-point game of the year. 
- Chloe Boreen and Whitney Horton each picked up a pair of points for St. Thomas, and Julia Minnoti made a season-high 41 saves. 

No. 5 Minnesota Duluth 5, No. 10 St. Cloud State 3 | BOX SCORE | Minnesota Duluth Recap | St. Cloud State Recap
- Fifth-ranked Minnesota Duluth got back in the win column, defeating No. 10 St. Cloud State 5-3 on the road in the series opener. 
- After an early first-period goal by St. Cloud State's Laura Zimmermann, the Bulldogs responded with three in the first and never looked back. 
- Ten different Bulldogs picked up points on the night, with Thea Johanson leading the team with a goal and an assist, while Bulldog netminder Sophia Villanueva made 31 saves to pick up the win in her first collegiate start. 
- The Huskies were led by Grace Wolfe, Laura Zimmerman, and Raili Mustonen, each scoring a goal; Jojo Chobak started in net and made four saves before Paige Hoogendam came in, making 17 to end the game.

- Minnesota State and Bemidji State ended in a 2-2 draw in the series opener, with the Mavericks earning the extra point in the WCHA standings with a shootout win. 
- Bemidji State's Morgan Smith scored the game's first goal 11 minutes into the first period before the Mavericks responded with back-to-back goals from Ayla Puppe in the second and Mercury Bischoff in the third; Isa Goettl tied the score with less than five minutes to go in the game for the Beavers. 
- Taylor Otremba scored the shootout goal to land the extra point for the Mavericks. 
- Bemidji State claimed its first WCHA point of the season, and netminder Ava Hills had 36 saves in the game.
