WCHA Recap - Nov. 21

Friday's Western Collegiate Hockey Association action saw five teams earn points in the league standings as RV Minnesota State earned the upset on the road over No. 2 Minnesota, No. 1 Wisconsin battled to a 4-3 overtime win against No. 15 St. Thomas, No. 3 Ohio State defeated No. 5 Minnesota Duluth, and No. 10 St. Cloud State shut out Bemidji State.

-  The 10th-ranked St. Cloud State Huskies opened its series at Bemidji State with a 4-0 victory; this marked the first regulation win in conference play for St. Cloud State this season. 
- Payton Remick lit the lamp for the Huskies at the 9:54 mark of the first for her first of two in the game; the second period saw Laura Zimmermann tally a goal while the Huskies went on to score two more unanswered in the third courtesy of Remick and Reese Strauts. 
- Emilia Kyrkkö recorded her second shutout of the season for St. Cloud State while stopping all 21 of the shots she faced in the 4-0 victory; it marked the fifth shutout of her career. 
- Kaitlin Groess had 22 saves in the loss for Bemidji State; Katy Comstock recorded two blocks to lead all Beavers in the game.

-  In a top-five matchup between No. 3 Ohio State and No. 5 Minnesota Duluth, the Buckeyes took the opening game of the series with a 3-1 victory to earn their 12th win of the season. 
- The Buckeyes' Maxine Cimoroni scored the game's first goal at the 9:53 mark of the first; Joy Dunne then put Ohio State up 2-0 with a goal in the second before Minnesota Duluth responded with an early third-period goal from Rae Mayer, but it was not enough as Dunne netted her second to close out the game. 
- Dunne's two goals put her at 65 for her career, which is tied for fifth most in Ohio State program history, as she leads the Buckeyes with 15 goals on the season. 
- Ève Gascon had a 50-save performance for Minnesota Duluth despite the loss; this marked the second game this season in which Gascon has recorded 50 saves.

-  Minnesota State pulled off a 3-1 upset over No. 2 Minnesota on the road to hand the Gophers just their second loss at home this season. 
- Tied at one with less than four minutes left in the game, Minnesota's Ava Guillemette lit the lamp for the Mavericks for the 2-1 lead before Kianna Roeske scored an empty netter to seal the game for the Mavericks with less than a minute to go. 
- Abbey Murphy scored the lone goal of the game for the Gophers as Josefin Bouveng and Bella Fanale each tallied the assist; Bouveng extended her point streak to 14 games with the helper. 
- Junior netminder Hailey Hansen backstopped the Mavericks as she recorded 39 saves with only one goal allowed in the victory; this marked Hansen's fifth win of the season.

-  In a thrilling top-15 matchup between No. 1 Wisconsin and No. 15 St. Thomas, the Badgers battled back to record a 4-3 overtime victory and improve to 19-0-0 all-time against the Tommies. 
- Maddie Brown gave St. Thomas a 1-0 lead, scoring in the opening period; the Badgers responded with back-to-back goals in the second, but the Tommies scored back-to-back goals of their own in the third to hold a 3-2 lead with less than two minutes to go; Wisconsin's then Kirsten Simms sent the game to overtime; Cassie Hall scored the game-winning goal at the 2:32 mark of extra time. 
- Wisconsin's Caroline Harvey tallied two assists in the game and tied Rhonda Curtin (Minnesota) for the most ever points scored by a WCHA Defender with 167 in her career. 
- Brown led the offensive efforts for the Tommies with her goal and an assist; St. Thomas' netminder Julia Minotti had 47 saves in the loss.
