Wozniewicz's Late Goal Leads Wisconsin to Claim 2025 Kwik Trip Final Faceoff Title

DULUTH, Minn. - For the second-straight season and 11th time in program history, the Wisconsin Badgers claimed the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Faceoff title.

The 2025 WCHA Player and Forward of the Year, Casey O'Brien, scored at the 9:12 mark of the opening period to give Wisconsin the lead, but Minnesota responded quickly as Alli Franco scored just 20 seconds later to tie the game. Josefin Bouveng then gave Minnesota its first lead of the day, scoring at the 16:58 mark of the first. Trailing by one heading into the second, Wisconsin's Vivian Jungels just 42 seconds into play to tie the game at two. WCHA All-Rookie team member Maggie Scannell regained the lead for the Badgers at the 8:04 mark. With less than a minute left to play in the second, Minnesota's Natalie Mlynkova scored on the power-play to tie the game at three.
The final period saw both teams hold each other scoreless through 19 minutes before Casey O'Brien found Sarah Wozniewicz for the game-winning goal with less than 30 seconds left to go. Wozniewicz's goal marked the ninth of the season as she propelled the Badgers to their 11th WCHA Final Faceoff title. Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Finalist Ava McNaughton recorded 30 saves in the game as she earned her 33rd win of the season for the Badgers.

Wisconsin earned the league's automatic qualifier to represent the WCHA in the 2025 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship. The Badgers await the selection show, which will air on ESPNU  on Sunday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m. CT
