The third-seeded Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the sixth-seeded Minnesota State Mavericks 6-2 on Sunday to win the best-of-three 2025 Western Collegiate Hockey Association First Round series and earn the final spot in the Kwik Trip WCHA Final Faceoff.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The third-seeded Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the sixth-seeded Minnesota State Mavericks 6-2 to clinch the final spot in the 2025 Kwik Trip WCHA Final Faceoff. Natalie Mlynkova scored off of an assist from Abbey Murphy at the 15:13 mark of the opening period for the 1-0 lead. The second period saw three Minnesota goals come under eight minutes in as Ava Lindsay, Audrey Wethington, and Abbey Murphy each found the back of the net. Minnesota State scored its first goal of the day at the 9:05 mark as Jamie Nelson brought the Mavericks within three. The Gophers were quick to answer with back-to-back goals from Murphy and Hemp to close out the second. Nelson scored her second of the game with less than 30 seconds to go in the third period for the 6-2 final. Murphy reached her 99th career goal in the victory for Minnesota. Hannah Clark got the win between the pipes for Minnesota while collecting 21 saves.
