Wisconsin Defeats Minnesota 6-2 & Punches Ticket to NCAA Title Game

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -  The top-seeded Wisconsin Badgers defeated fourth-seeded Minnesota 6-2 at the 2025 NCAA Women's Frozen Four on Friday night inside Ridder Arena to advance to its third-consecutive and 12th overall national title game.

After a scoreless first 14 minutes of action, Minnesota's Peyton Hemp scored the game's first goal. The Badgers were quick to respond as Laila Edwards recorded a short-handed goal three minutes later. Tied at one heading into the second period, Wisconsin recorded back-to-back goals in the opening 10 minutes to take the lead. Caroline Harvey scored the go-ahead goal just under three minutes in. Teammate Kirsten Simms followed up with a goal of her own at the 9:42 mark to extend the lead to two for the Badgers. Less than a minute later, Josefin Bouveng brought the Gophers within one as she found the back of the net. With 2.0 seconds left to go, the WCHA Player and Forward of the Year, Casey O'Brien, scored for the Badgers to extend the lead to two. Edwards netted her second of the game just under five minutes into the final period for the 5-2 Badgers lead. With less than two minutes to go, Edwards netted her third of the game for the 6-2 final score.
