Simms' Overtime Goal Advances Wisconsin to NCAA Title Game

The second-seeded Wisconsin Badgers defeated third-seeded and host Penn State 4-3 in overtime at the 2026 NCAA Women's Frozen Four on Friday night inside Pegula Ice Arena to advance to its fourth-consecutive and 13th overall national title game.

Penn State struck first, scoring just under two minutes into the first period as Tessa Janecke recorded the goal on the power play. Laila Edwards netted the equalizer at the 4:31 mark of the period, but the Nittany Lions added another power play goal to take a 2-1 lead after the first. The second period saw Edwards score her second of the game as she converted on the power play at the 8:11 mark of the period. Teammate Adéla Šapovalivová then gave the Badgers their first lead of the game, scoring at the 16:09 mark of the second. With five minutes remaining in the third period, Penn State's Janecke scored her second of the day to send the game to overtime. Kirsten Simms, who scored the overtime goal in last year's NCAA title game, converted on the Badger power play 50 seconds into the extra period to lead Wisconsin to victory.
