Wisconsin Defeats Ohio State 3-2 To Win Program's Ninth National Title

The Wisconsin Badgers claimed their nation-leading ninth national championship title after a thrilling 3-2 win against Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at Pegula Ice Arena at University Park, Pa. The win capped off a historic 35-4-2 season for coach Mark Johnson's program.
 
The Badgers won their fifth NCAA title in the last eight years and ninth overall in program history. Wisconsin's nine national championships are the most of any school in the nation.

The Badgers were quick to light the lamp as Kelly Gorbatenko recorded a goal just over a minute into the game off an assist from Adéla Šapovalivová. At the 7:34 mark of the opening period, Laney Potter extended the Badger lead to two as Gorbatenko and Adéla Šapovalivová both assisted on the goal. After a scoreless second period, the Buckeyes responded with back-to-back goals within the opening six minutes of the final frame. Kassidy Carmichael put the Buckeyes on the board at the 3:32 mark of the third, while teammate Jocelyn Amos netted the equalizer just over two minutes later. Claire Enright then responded for the Badgers at the 13:42 mark of the period and scored what would stand as the game-winning goal. Ava McNaughton, who was awarded the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, recorded 34 saves in the victory for the Badgers.
