BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University women's hockey and (RV) Clarkson University skated to a 1-1 tie Friday night as the Beavers hosted its home opener in a non-conference matchup. Senior Graysen Myers scored early in the third period to put the Beavers (1-3-1, 1-3-0 WCHA) up 1-0 but a late goal by the Golden Knights (5-0-1, 0-0-0 ECAC) tied the game.
Bemidji State and Clarkson skated to a scoreless 0-0 tie after the game's first two periods but 3:31 into the final period, Myers batted home a loose puck in front of goaltender Michelle Pasiechnyk for her first goal of the season and the game's first goal. The Beavers held the Golden Knights scoreless for much of the remainder period but with just 2:13 left, Gabrielle David tipped home a Haley Winn shot that beat Hannah Hogenson for the game-tying goal.
Bemidji State and Clarkson skated in a 3-on-3 overtime period to decide a winner but neither team could find the back of the net and ended as a 1-1 tie.
The Beavers were led by their netminder Hogenson who turned aside 24-of-25 shots by the Golden Knights and is now 0-1-1 on the season. Seniors Paige Beebe and Lydia Passolt each assisted on Myers' goal to pick up their third and second points of the season, respectively.
Clarkson's Pasiechnyk led the Golden Knights with spectacular goaltending and stopped 27-of-28 shots by the Beavers including 18 in the games' first two periods. Pasiechnyk remains undefeated on the season and boasts a 4-0-2 record.
BSU earned three power plays during the game but failed to produce a power-play goal while its penalty kill denied the Golden Knights on their lone chance.
Bemidji State and Clarkson will play the series finale tomorrow afternoon when the two teams meet again at the Sanford Center at 3:01 p.m.
