Michelle McAteer was named the Commissioner of the WCHA Office in July of 2024.  

McAteer joined the WCHA after spending 14 seasons as the head coach of the Augsburg University women's hockey program. While at Augsburg, McAteer coached the women's hockey program to eight consecutive MIAC playoff appearances and recruited and coached multiple All-Americans. 

McAteer also assisted with Augsburg's Athletic Department Administrative duties including serving as the Assistant NCAA Compliance Director and as a Student Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor. McAteer also served on multiple committees including the NCAA Division Il Women's Ice Hockey Championship Committee, NCAA Division I, and Il Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules Committee. 

Prior to Augsburg, McAteer held assistant coaching positions at Minnesota Duluth, Vaughn Flames and Harvard University. 

A native of Scarborough, Ontario, McAteer was a member of UMD teams that won national titles in 2001, 2002 and 2003, while also winning Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) regular-season titles in 2000 and 2003, and WCHA playoff titles in 2000, 2001 and 2003.

McAteer earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Minnesota Duluth, and earned her master’s degree in speech communication from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She resides in Minneapolis, Minn. with her wife, Gina.
