WCHA Rookie of the Week Saskia Maurer of St. Thomas
Four Teams Share Player of the Week Honors
In a Competitive Weekend of WCHA Action, Four Teams are Recognized with Awards

sterlingBLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Oct. 18, 2021 – On a weekend where all eight teams were in action, Western Collegiate Hockey Association honored four student-athletes as WCHA Players of the Week, presented by Sterling Trophy.

WCHA Forward of the Week

player Jennifer Gardiner, Jr., Ohio State (Surrey, British Columbia)

In an outstanding five-point weekend, Jennifer Gardiner recorded two goals and three assists in the sweep of Bemidji State. In addition to her nine shots on goal, she posted a plus-4 rating on the ice as she scored two of the team's seven goals and added an assist in game one, before adding two more apples in game two. Her three assists this weekend make Gardiner the team leader in helpers this season (7).

WCHA Defender of the Week

player Nicole LaMantia, Sr., Wisconsin (Wayne, Ill.)

In a top-10 matchup at Minnesota Duluth, Nicole LaMantia helped Wisconsin to a sweep with two points in a 5-4 OT victory. Behind a goal and an assist, LaMantia earned her 50th career point as a Badger, while she led Wisconsin with seven blocked shots on the weekend.

WCHA Goaltender of the Week

player Makayla Pahl, Jr., Minnesota (Rochester, Minn.)

In helping the Gophers to a series sweep, Makayla Pahl tallied 23 saves on 25 shots faced for a .920 save percentage through 99:17 of action. Her weekend included a 1.20 goals against average, as well as her first career shutout in Friday's game against Minnesota State.

WCHA Rookie of the Week

player Saskia Maurer, Fr., St. Thomas (Rothenbach, Switzerland)

Earning the first weekly award for the Tommies in the Division I era is Saskia Maurer as she moved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 3-2 win over St. Cloud State. Maurer recorded 39 saves on 41 shots faces for a .951 save percentage through 60:00 of action. On the year, the goaltender has stopped 67 of 70 shots in her wins over Bemidji State and St. Cloud State.
