BEMIDJI, Minn. - Senior goaltender Kerigan Dowhy turned aside 39 shots and senior Lydia Passolt supplied a goal for the Bemidji State University women's hockey Friday but it would not be enough as Minnesota State University, Mankato scored twice during the final 4:30 to steal the Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest, 2-1.

The Beavers now fall to 1-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in WCHA play while the Mavericks improve to 3-7-1 and 3-7-1 in league play.

After a scoreless first period, Bemidji State opened the scoring when Passolt one-timed a Reece Hunt pass from just in front of the top of the crease just 3:12 into the second period. Dowhy was strong in net and kept the Beavers ahead heading into the final period by turning aside 27-of-27 shots by the Mavericks through the first 40 minutes.

All things pointed to a Beaver victory with Dowhy backstopping the Beavers, but with 4:30 remaining Brittyn Fleming tied the game with a wrap-around goal for her fourth of the season. The Mavericks didn't stop and with 2:34 to play and on the power play, Tristen Truax fired a shot from the right point that caught Dowhy's shoulder and trickled past the goal line for the go-ahead goal.

Bemidji State pulled Dowhy with 1:34 to play in favor of the 6-on-5 advantage but were unable to find the back of the net and for the team's fourth consecutive loss.

Dowhy finished with 39 saves on 41 shots while the Beavers were outshot 41-19 in the game. MSU's Calla Frank improved to 2-5-1 on the season after making 18 saves while Dowhy falls to 1-4-1

The Beavers will attempt to salvage a series split when it again hosts the Mavericks (3-7-1; 3-7-1 WCHA) at 2:07 p.m. tomorrow.
