COLUMBUS, Ohio - Third-ranked Ohio State registered its second consecutive shutout as it opened a weekend series against Minnesota State with a 3-0 victory over the Mavericks on Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes are now 7-4-0 on the season while the Mavericks fall to 4-8-1.

On offense, senior Tatum Skaggs scored two goals - one in the first period and another in the third - while freshman Riley Brengman added two assists. Junior goalie Andrea Braendli, who won her 42nd career game, made 25 saves.

"We kept buzzing the first couple of shifts," said head coach Nadine Muzerall. "It was a reminder of how great we can play when they're firing on all cylinders. I thought they all played very well together all over the ice. It was a very well-deserved win tonight."

First Period

The scoring started early for the Scarlet and Gray as Skaggs struck just 31 seconds into the first period for her fourth goal of the season. She was assisted on the play by Emma Maltais and Brengman. On the other end of the ice, Ohio State allowed just six Minnesota State shots - all saved by Braendli - and took its 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Second Period

Still nursing their 1-0 lead late into the second period, Ohio State got a boost when freshman Jenna Buglioni beat Minnesota State goalie Calla Frank with a shot 14:31 into the period to make the score 2-0. For Buglioni, it was her fifth goal of the season. Jennifer Gardiner and Gabby Rosenthal earned assists on the play.

Third Period

Skaggs gave the Buckeyes a three-goal cushion 2:06 into the final period off assists from Liz Schepers and Brengman. The goal tied Skaggs with Buglioni for the team lead with five goals on the season and it was her 113th career point in 123 games. The senior from Hartland, Wisc. has 62 goals and 50 career assists.

Special Units

Neither team was able to capitalize on its one power play opportunity, although Ohio State did generate four shots on its chance in the second period. The Buckeyes are yet to give up a power play goal this season and are 22 for 22 on the year on the penalty kill.
