Minnesota's Murphy, Ohio State's Svensson Join Wisconsin's Edwards & McNaughton to Claim WCHA Weekly Awards Presented by OS Hockey

Minnesota's Abbey Murphy, Ohio State's Hilda Svensson, and Wisconsin's duo of Laila Edwards and Ava McNaughton claimed the latest Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) weekly honors presented by OS Hockey.



WCHA Forward of the Week
Abbey Murphy, Gr., Minnesota (Evergreen Park, Ill.)
For the second consecutive week, Minnesota's Abbey Murphy claimed the WCHA Forward of the Week honor after her six-point series performance in the Gophers' sweep of then No. 13 Boston University. In the series opener on Friday, Murphy recorded her third multi-point game of the season with her two goals and one assist in the 5-0 shutout victory. Murphy followed up with her second hat-trick performance of the season on Saturday to help the Gophers to a 5-2 win.

WCHA Defender of the Week
Laila Edwards, Sr., Wisconsin (Cleveland Heights, Ohio)

Wisconsin's Laila Edwards was named the WCHA Defender of the Week for the first time this season after her performance in the Badgers' series sweep of Maine. In game one on Friday, Edwards scored two goals, one of which was the game-winning goal, to help the Badgers to a 5-0 shutout. Edwards followed up on Saturday with two assists and one block in the 5-0 win. On the weekend, Edwards totaled four points, marking the most of any WCHA defender.

WCHA Goaltender of the Week
Ava McNaughton, Jr., Wisconsin (Seven Fields, Pa.) 

After an undefeated weekend in net for Wisconsin, Ava McNaughton claimed her first WCHA Goaltender of the Week accolade of the season. In the series opener against Maine, McNaughton stopped all 25 shots she faced to earn her second shutout of the season. McNaughton played all but 10 minutes in game two of the series and collected 13 saves to help the Badgers to a 5-0 defeat of Maine and earn their third shutout of the season. The junior netminder was the only WCHA goaltender to play in two games on the weekend and not allow a goal.

WCHA Rookie of the Week
Hilda Svensson, Forward, Ohio State (Oskarshamn, Sweden)

Ohio State's Hilda Svensson earned the first weekly honor of her career as she was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week. In her collegiate debut for Ohio State, Svensson recorded two assists to help her team to a 5-3 defeat of then No. 7 Colgate on the road. The rookie forward recorded another multi-point performance in Saturday's 9-4 win with two goals, one of which came on the power play. Svensson tied the team lead with four points in the series.
