COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team earned a sweep of No. 1 Wisconsin with a 2-1overtime win Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink. Hannah Bilka scored the overtime goal to push the Buckeyes (11-1-0, 10-0-0 WCHA) ahead of the Badgers (12-2-0, 8-2-0 WCHA).
How it Happened
- Jenn Gardiner recorded the first goal of the game, finding the back of the net at 7:10 into the first period. Gardiner's goal was assisted by Stephanie Markowski and Cayla Barnes.
- The Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead at the first intermission and held Wisconsin to just four shots on goal in the opening frame.
- Wisconsin tied the game at 4:18 in the second period with a goal from Cassie Hall.
- Both teams were scoreless in the third. The Badgers took an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal in the frame, but Ohio State goaltender Amanda Thiele kept them off the scoreboard in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
- Hannah Bilka scored 1:17 into overtime to hand Ohio State its 2-1 victory. The final play started behind the Buckeyes' goal, with Hadley Hartmetz winning the puck back in her own defensive zone. She sent it up the ice to Gardiner, who was rushing into the Wisconsin zone with Hannah Bilka. Gardiner and Bilka took advantage of the 2-on-1 opportunity, with Bilka scoring at 1:17 into extra time.
