No. 2 Buckeyes Down Bemidji State, 9-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team got off to a hot start in Bemidji, Minn., downing Bemidji State, 9-1, Friday night at the Sanford Center. The Buckeyes (8-1-0, 7-0-0 WCHA) had 15 skaters record a point in game one against the Beavers (0-10-1, 0-7-0 WCHA).
 
How it Happened
  • Ohio State recorded three goals in the first two minutes of the game to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. Jocelyn Amos found the back of the net 21 seconds into the game, followed by Delaney Fleming at 44 seconds and Sloane Matthews at 2:00.
  • While the Buckeyes did not score the remainder of the opening period, they had a 14-3 lead in shots on goal after 20:00.
  • In the second period, Joy Dunne and Kiara Zanon scored two goals apiece to give Ohio State seven unanswered goals. Dunne recorded her goals at 9:30 and 14:42 and Zanon added hers at 13:48 and 16:39.
  • Bemidji scored its first goal of the game at 19:14 in the second period to make it a 7-1 game.
  • Ohio State goaltender Raygan Kirk recorded nine saves through 40:00 of play before being replaced by graduate Quinn Kuntz, who made three stops in the third period.
  • The Buckeyes closed the game with two goals in the third period. Dunne tallied her third goal of the day on the power play at 4:55 in the third period and Cayla Barnes lit the lamp at 12:41.


Game Notes
  • The Buckeyes' first three goals came on the first four shots on goal of the game.
  • Joy Dunne, who scored her first career goal in Friday's game, also tallied her first career hat trick in the game. She scored the team's fourth, sixth and eighth goals of the day. Dunne is the first freshman to record a hat trick for the Buckeyes since Tatum Skaggs scored three goals against Robert Morris on Nov. 24, 2017.
  • Freshman Delaney Fleming recorded her first career goal on Friday. The goal was also her first point of her collegiate career.
  • With an assist on Dunne's final goal of the game, Kelsey King has reached 100 points for her career.
  • Fifteen skaters tallied a point for Ohio State in Friday's game against Bemidji State.
  • Ohio State's 9-1 win is its largest margin of victory over the Beavers since Oct. 27, 2012, when the Buckeyes earned a 10-1 victory over Bemidji State in Columbus. The team's nine goals are its most goals scored in a game since Dec. 30, 2022, when they defeated Lindenwood, 9-1.
  • Quinn Kuntz took the ice for the first time this season, recording 19:53 minutes between the pipes for Ohio State. She made three saves in the game.
  • For the fourth time this season, Ohio State kept its opponent to less than 20 shots on goal. Bemidji State landed just 13 shots on target in the game.
