COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team swept Bemidji State in Bemidji, Minn. with a 5-0 win Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Center. The Buckeyes (9-1-0, 8-0-0 WCHA) earned their second shutout of the season to close out the first half of the 2023-24 road season.
How it Happened
- Sloane Matthews tallied the first goal of the game, and only goal of the first period, at 6:22 into the opening frame. Kenzie Hauswirth sent a shot wide of the Bemidji State goal, but Matthews was on the back post ready to knock it past Beaver goaltender Eva Filippova.
- Just one goal was scored in the second period, with Joceyln Amos lighting the lamp at 13:26. Jennifer Gardiner backhanded the puck from behind the goal into the slot for Amos to one-time into the Beaver goal.
- The Buckeyes tallied three goals in the third period, with goals from Olivia Mobley at 2:03, Joy Dunne at 6:39 and Emma Peschel at 14:43.
- At two minutes into the second period, Riley Brengman started with the puck behind the Buckeyes' net and passed to Mobley at the Ohio State blue line. Mobley skated through the neutral zone and took a shot from the left faceoff dot in the Beavers' zone that soared past Filippova's glove.
- Dunne found herself 1-on-1 with Filippova after Jordan Baxter popped the puck over a couple of Bemidji players in the neutral zone with 13:30 to play in the game. Dunne carried the puck in the Beavers' zone and finished right over Filippova's blocker.
- Emma Peschel tallied Ohio State's fifth and final goal of the game, taking a shot from just in front of the blueline and sneaking the puck inside the left post.
- Ohio State goaltender Amanda Thiele made 11 saves on the day to earn the shutout. The Buckeyes held Bemidji State to 27 shot attempts in the game.
