Gophers Score Six in Second Period, Cruise Past Beavers

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey team put on a goal-scoring clinic in its 9-2 win against Bemidji State on Friday, the most goals they've scored in a game this season.

The Gophers scored six goals in the second period alone, with each of those six goals coming off the stick of a different player.

Three of Minnesota's freshmen each scored a goal in the contest, with Lauren O'Hara scoring her first collegiate goal in the second period and following it up with one at the end of the third period.

Redshirt junior Abbey Murphy also scored two goals in the game, with her first being the lone Gopher goal in the first period. Murphy and O'Hara weren't the only two with two-goal efforts, as freshman Ava Lindsay also found the back of the net twice on Friday night.

Junior Skylar Vetter got the start between the pipes for the Gophers and made 17 saves.

The game started slow for both teams, and was tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. Murphy's goal came after Bemidji State scored the contest's first goal, but the game wasn't tied for long.

Minnesota broke the game open in the second period, scoring six goals. Audrey Wethington, Murphy, freshman Emma Kreisz, Josefin Bouveng, O'Hara and Ava Lindsay all lit the lamp in the second frame.

A.Lindsay and O'Hara each scored again in the final period, pushing the score to 9-2 as the final buzzer sounded.
