WCHA Recap - Oct. 3

The first weekend of league action wrapped up with a trio of series sweeps by No. 3 Minnesota, No. 2 Ohio State, and No. 13 St. Cloud State, while No. 7 Minnesota Duluth earned an overtime victory in nonconference action at RV Vermont.

  • Junior forward Josie St. Martin scored twice for the Bulldogs, including the overtime game-winning goal. In two seasons, it's the first multi-goal game in St. Martin's time with Minnesota Duluth.
  • The win marked the 100th Division I victory for head coach Laura Schuler in her career. 
  • Ève Gascon earned her third start of the season and posted 22 saves in the game to lead the Bulldogs to a series split.

  • Sophomore forward Bella Fanale tallied her first multi-goal game of the season.
  • Bemidji State recorded the WCHA's first shorthanded goal of the 2026-27 season when senior forward Hailey Armstrong net a shorty 5:06 into the third period. 
  • Sophomore netminder Sophia Villanueva made a career-high 41 saves for the Beavers.

  • Sophomore forward Hilda Svensson led the Buckeyes with three points on two goals and an assist to secure an undefeated 4-0-0 record.
  • Last week's WCHA Rookie of the Week, netminder Rowan Houweling made a career-high 18 saves against the Tommies. The rookie improves to 2-0-0 on the year in goal for the Buckeyes.
  • With goals from sophomore forward Maxine Cimoroni and sophomore defender Jenna Raunio, eight Buckeyes have recorded a goal on the year. Sophomore defender Sydney Sawyer tallied her first point as a Buckeye with an assist in the game.

  • Sophomore forward Maria Mikaelyan recorded a pair of goals, including the game-winner on the power play. Mikaelyan ultimately tallied five goals on the weekend after posting a hat trick in yesterday's series opener. 
  • In her first career start, freshman goaltender Alexis Ehrman tallied 33 saves for her first career shutout. Her performance included a game-high of 14 saves in the second period.
  • St. Cloud State is now 4-0-0 this season, while all of its opponents have been ranked/receiving votes in either the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Poll or the USA Hockey Poll. It's also just the second time in program history the Huskies have started out 4-0-0, with the other coming in the 2024-25 season (6-0-0 start).
