Minnesota State and Bemidji State Claim Final WCHA Weekly Honors of 2024

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced its weekly awards presented by OS Hockey as Minnesota State's Madison Mashuga, JuliAnna Gazdik and Hailey Hansen were joined by Bemidji State's Morgan Smith in claiming the final honors of 2024. 

The Mavericks' Mashuga and Gazdik earned their first weekly honors of the season claiming the Forward of the Week and Defender of the Week honors, respectively. Hansen was tabbed the Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season while Bemidji State's Smith earned her first Rookie of the Week honor. 



WCHA Forward of the Week
Madison Mashuga, Sr., Minnesota State (Anoka, Minn.)
After recording her first career hat trick and helping Minnesota State to a series sweep, Madison Mashuga was tabbed the WCHA Forward of the Week. Mashuga recorded three of Minnesota State's five goals in the shutout win over Bemidji State on Friday. The senior forward followed up with one assist in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Beavers for a four-point series. 

WCHA Defender of the Week
JuliAnna Gazdik, So, Minnesota State (Somerset, Wis.)
For the first time this season, Minnesota State's JuliAnna Gazdik claimed the WCHA Defender of the Week honor after her performance in the Mavericks' series sweep over Bemidji State. Gazdik turned in a three-point weekend after recording an assist in Friday's 5-0 win and two in Saturday's 5-3 final. 

WCHA Goaltender of the Week
Hailey Hansen, So., Minnesota State (Blaine, Minn.)

Minnesota State's Hailey Hansen earned her third WCHA Goaltender of the Week honor after an undefeated weekend for the Mavericks. The sophomore netminder recorded her second shutout of the season in Friday's 5-0 win and earned her first conference sweep of the season. On the weekend, Hansen stopped 22 of the 25 shots she faced for a .888 save percentage. 

WCHA Rookie of the Week
Morgan Smith, Fr, F, Bemidji State (East St. Paul, Manitoba)
Bemidji State's Morgan Smith was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for the first time this season after notching her first career hat trick over the weekend. On Saturday, Smith recorded all three goals in the 5-3 loss to Minnesota State as she became the first rookie Beaver since 2020 to record a hat trick.
