Bemidji State's Filippova & Smith, Minnesota Duluth's Henderson & Van Wieren Earn WCHA Weekly Awards Presented by OS Hockey

Bemidji State's Eva Filippova and Morgan Smith were joined by Minnesota Duluth's Clara Van Wieren and Tova Henderson in claiming the Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekly awards presented by OS Hockey. 

Van Wieren claimed her first Forward of the Week honor of the season, while teammate Henderson earned her second Defender of the Week nod as the duo helped Minnesota Duluth to a series sweep of Minnesota State. After recording her second career shutout, Filippova was tabbed the Goaltender of the Week for the first time this season, while Smith claimed her third Rookie of the Week honor. 



WCHA Forward of the Week
Clara Van Wieren, Gr., Minnesota Duluth (Okemos, Mich.)
Minnesota Duluth's Clara Van Wieren was named the WCHA Forward of the Week for the first time this season. The Okemos, Michigan native recorded five points in the Bulldogs' series sweep over Minnesota State. In the opening contest of the series, Van Wieren earned her second career hat trick, along with two assists, to help the Bulldogs to an 8-2 victory. Van Wieren is now in the midst of a four-game scoring streak and has posted four goals and four assists for eight points over that span.

WCHA Defender of the Week
Tova Henderson, Jr., Minnesota Duluth ( Richmond, B.C.)

Tova Henderson claimed her second WCHA Defender of the Week honor of the season after her performance in Minnesota Duluth's series sweep over Minnesota State. In UMD's 8-2 win on Friday, Henderson recorded two assists and a block before following up with one assist and two blocks in Saturday's 4-1 win. Henderson averaged 1.50 points per game in the series sweep and is in the midst of a four-game scoring streak.

WCHA Goaltender of the Week
Eva Filippova, So. Bemidji State (Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia)
For the first time this season, Bemidji State's Eva Filippova earned the WCHA Goaltender of the Week nod after recording her second career shutout in the Beavers' 5-0 road win against St. Thomas. The shutout in the Beavers' opening game of the series against the Tommies marked the first of the season for the sophomore netminder as she stopped all 27 of the shots she faced. On Saturday, Filippova stopped 12 of the 13 shots she faced in the 30:44 of playing time before leaving the game due to injury. On the weekend, Filippova registered a .975 save percentage and 0.66 goals against average.

WCHA Rookie of the Week
Morgan Smith, F, Bemidji State (Winnipeg, Manitoba)

After recording her second career hat trick, Bemidji State's Morgan Smith was tabbed the WCHA Rookie of the Week for the third time. The rookie forward totaled four points in Bemidji State's series split with St. Thomas, off of three goals and an assist. In Friday's 5-0 win over the Tommies, Smith recorded an assist and followed up by scoring all three goals in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Tommies. Smith became just the second skater in program history to record multiple hat tricks in a season.
